ALGIERS- In response to the mandate from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, has arrived in Oyala, Equatorial Guinea, to participate in the 5th Summit of the Group of Ten (G10) of the African Union on November 24. Attaf, serving as the President’s representative, will also engage in the ministerial meeting on November 23, addressing issues related to the reform of the UN Security Council.

Alongside his participation in these crucial gatherings, Minister Attaf is set to hold bilateral discussions with several African counterparts. Algeria, gearing up for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council, will host two significant meetings closely tied to the summit’s theme.

Firstly, the Oran Process in December aims to fortify African solidarity within the Security Council, while a ministerial meeting of the G10 in Algiers early next year aims to bolster the momentum of the common African stance on UN reform.

The G10’s mandate includes mobilizing international support for the African common position, advocating for two permanent seats on the Security Council with full powers and privileges, and increasing representation in the non-permanent category from three to five seats.
