Algeria’s Historic Stand: Nader Al-Qaissi Hails Algeria as the First Nation to Recognize the State of Palestine

Algiers – September 2025 – In a powerful reaffirmation of Algeria’s unwavering solidarity with Palestine, Nader Al-Qaissi, representative of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in Algeria, declared that Algeria was the very first country in the world to officially recognize the State of Palestine during its proclamation in Algiers in 1988. He underscored that this historic stance reflects Algeria’s steadfastness in defending the Palestinian cause, describing Algerian diplomacy as “a free and powerful voice” consistently present in every international forum.
Speaking on Radio Algérie Internationale’s program “Dhaif al-Dawlia,” Al-Qaissi stressed that the recent wave of international recognitions of the Palestinian state is the fruit of seventy-seven years of resilience and sacrifice by the Palestinian people. He emphasized that these recognitions carry political, legal, economic, and social dimensions that must be strategically harnessed to reinforce Palestinian rights on the global stage.
Highlighting the ongoing struggle, Al-Qaissi asserted that the ultimate aim of international recognition is to halt the genocide in Gaza, ensure humanitarian access, and bring an end to the Zionist occupation. He noted that the “Al-Aqsa Flood” operation acted as a turning point, propelling world public opinion to shift decisively in favor of the Palestinian narrative. Responding to voices demanding the disarmament of the Palestinian resistance as a precondition for recognition, he firmly stated that the resistance’s weapons embody the dignity of the Palestinian people, and their future will be determined solely by Palestinians themselves—only after the establishment of a sovereign state.
Turning to the imperative of Palestinian unity, Al-Qaissi called for restructuring the internal front through frank dialogue and the effective implementation of the Algiers Agreement, describing it as the cornerstone for genuine reconciliation and national cohesion.
He also addressed the meeting convened by former U.S. President Donald Trump with several Arab and Islamic leaders on the margins of the United Nations General Assembly in New York to discuss the situation in Gaza. Al-Qaissi criticized the absence of any Palestinian representation, underscoring that no external party holds the right to decide the destiny of the Palestinian people.
Concluding his remarks, the PFLP representative declared that Israel’s mounting international isolation constitutes a historic opportunity for Palestinians and global advocates of justice to escalate pressure and advance the struggle to end the occupation. “Today, the Palestinian narrative is stronger, more widespread, and far more compelling than the Zionist narrative across the world,” he affirmed, marking a decisive shift in global consciousness.
