Algiers, Algeria | December 27th, 2024 — Algeria’s burgeoning military industry is positioning itself as a cornerstone of the nation’s strategic autonomy and a significant driver of its economic landscape. The high level of technological mastery achieved across its various sectors was prominently displayed at the 32nd Algerian Production Fair (FPA), held at the Algiers Exhibition Palace.

This showcase of technological prowess underscores the Ministry of National Defense’s (MDN) commitment to advancing domestic production while bolstering the national economy. The military industry not only symbolizes the innovation and technical expertise of the People’s National Army (ANP) but also serves as a source of pride and admiration for the fair’s visitors.

Technological Marvels on Display

The Establishment for the Development and Production of Advanced Technology Systems (EDPSTA) presented groundbreaking innovations, including the “Aurès 700,” a quadrotor drone, and a fixed-wing drone designed by Algerian engineers, many of whom are graduates of the Military Polytechnic School (EMP) and aviation schools. These drones are equipped for day and night reconnaissance, target geolocation, aerial mapping, and tracking mobile targets, emphasizing their dual military and civilian applications.

Highlighting the institution’s innovative trajectory, a representative at the FPA revealed ongoing projects, such as a hybrid drone (DHA), a VTOL drone combining fixed-wing and rotor advantages, a Hexarotor drone, and a mini-kamikaze drone. Additional advancements include grenade-launching systems and mortar launchers, reflecting Algeria’s focus on cutting-edge defense technologies.

The EDPSTA’s expertise extends beyond drones, specializing in composite material fabrication and repair. The facility provides aeronautical solutions, including structural replacements for aircraft and specialized components. To maintain its competitive edge, the establishment operates a technology monitoring unit and conducts regular training for its engineering teams.

Excellence in Mechanical Engineering

Another standout exhibitor, the Mechanical Constructions Establishment of Khenchela (ECMK), showcased a broad range of high-quality, locally manufactured products. With a legacy dating back to 1990, ECMK specializes in armament production for the ANP and paramilitary institutions, as well as spare parts for various industrial applications.

A representative of ECMK highlighted the institution’s dedication to producing tools and equipment that meet international standards. “Our participation in the FPA aims to demonstrate our diverse portfolio, emphasizing the 100% local fabrication of high-quality products reflecting the expertise we have built over decades,” the lieutenant-colonel stated.

ECMK’s contributions extend to industrial subcontracting for public and private institutions. On display were precision tools, injection molds, forging stamps, and cutting instruments, which are in high demand among small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
