Algeria’s Police Chief Hosts Congolese Counterpart to Deepen Bilateral

In a diplomatic and operational exchange, the Director General of National Security, Mr. Ali Badaoui, received a high-level delegation led by Mr. André Fils Obami Itou, Director General and Commander of the National Police Forces of the Republic of Congo, to bolster security collaboration, training, and coordination under AFRIPOL’s regional framework.

Algiers, Algeria | May 14th, 2025 — As part of its unwavering commitment to enhancing bilateral security cooperation, Algeria’s Director General of National Security (DGSN), Mr. Ali Badaoui, received on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the headquarters of the General Directorate of National Security, a high-level delegation from the Republic of Congo led by Mr. André Fils Obami Itou, Director General and Commander of the Congolese National Police Forces.

The visit began with bilateral talks between Mr. Badaoui and his Congolese counterpart, which were later expanded to include both countries’ police delegations. The discussions focused on practical mechanisms to reinforce and consolidate security cooperation across a wide range of strategic areas. These include specialized training and education, scientific policing, combating transnational organized crime, and aligning efforts on shared security concerns. Central to the dialogue was the necessity for increased coordination within the African Union Mechanism for Police Cooperation (AFRIPOL), headquartered in Algiers.

As part of the official programme, the Congolese police delegation visited the Central Forensic Science and Technical Laboratory in Châteauneuf. During this visit, the delegation received a comprehensive technical presentation detailing the laboratory’s organizational structure, operational mandates, and the cutting-edge forensic equipment deployed in criminal investigations. This initiative is part of Algeria’s wider efforts to support the work of its criminal investigation units and to modernize the investigative tools used in law enforcement.

The delegation continued its field tour with a visit to the Special Police Operations Group (GOSP) in Boudaou. There, they were briefed on the various units within the GOSP, its mission scope, and the rigorous training programs undertaken by its members. The visit featured dynamic live demonstrations and simulated operational exercises that showcased the high level of professionalism, tactical discipline, and operational readiness of Algeria’s elite police units.

The day concluded with a visit to the Directorate of Republican Security Units, where the Congolese delegation observed public order operations conducted in the field by Republican Security personnel. They also witnessed simulation exercises executed by specialized units, including the Explosives Unit and the National Security Canine Unit, underscoring Algeria’s comprehensive capabilities in maintaining public safety and responding to complex security challenges.
