Algiers – October 2025 – Once again, circles hostile to Algeria’s progress are attempting to fish in troubled waters, desperately seeking to tarnish the country’s monumental achievements by magnifying isolated maintenance works in a handful of stadiums. These orchestrated narratives, designed to mislead public opinion, stand in sharp contradiction to the reality on the ground: Algeria today ranks as the first country on the African continent in terms of sports infrastructure and state-of-the-art stadiums, an unprecedented accomplishment realized under the presidency of Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
Far from the ill-intentioned claims, Algeria has launched an ambitious policy of constructing stadiums of global standards across different regions of the country, ensuring balance and fairness in regional development. A striking example is the newly built stadium in Béchar, the first of its kind in the city, while another groundbreaking project is underway in Ouargla. These initiatives not only provide world-class sporting facilities but also embody a strategic vision for equitable national development.
The detractors’ narrative collapses further when confronted with facts. What they deliberately obscure is that Algeria’s sporting infrastructure is not in crisis but rather in expansion and renewal. Maintenance and rehabilitation of existing stadiums is both natural and necessary for ensuring long-term quality. Yet, certain actors, intent on distortion, attempt to portray routine renovations as evidence of an alleged “stadium crisis” – a fabrication that insults both the intelligence of the Algerian public and the scale of the country’s accomplishments.
In truth, Algeria stands fully prepared to host any sporting event, whether continental or global, thanks to its modern infrastructures and solid organizational capacity. The very attempt to undermine this readiness betrays the anxiety of those threatened by Algeria’s rising stature as a hub for African and international sport.
These smear campaigns, no matter how loud, cannot obscure the reality: Algeria’s new era of sports development, driven by strategic foresight and equitable investment, has already positioned the nation as a continental leader. The facts on the ground remain unassailable – Algeria is building, Algeria is ready, and Algeria will not be distracted by the noise of the envious.
