The move is part of Algérie Poste’s national strategy to modernize financial services and boost financial inclusion, in alignment with the state’s broader objective of accelerating the transition toward a fully digital economy.

According to Algérie Poste’s official statement, “Baridi Pay” enables seamless payment transactions simply by scanning a merchant’s QR code. With no physical contact, and no golden card (“Edhahabiya”) required, the service allows users to complete purchases in seconds, relying solely on their mobile phones.

Secure, Instant, and Always Accessible

What sets “Baridi Pay” apart is its user-friendly interface, round-the-clock availability, and enhanced security. Transactions are confirmed via SMS authentication, ensuring that funds are securely and immediately transferred from the customer’s account to the merchant’s account in real time.

Algérie Poste highlighted that the roll-out will begin with pharmacies and local points of sale, before expanding nationwide. The system is designed to support small merchants, especially those in underserved or cash-dominated areas, as part of a broader mission to reduce dependence on physical currency and promote digital financial ecosystems.

The launch of “Baridi Pay” comes with strong backing from public authorities, who view the initiative as a key lever to curb reliance on cash and foster a more inclusive digital economy.
