Algérie Poste to Launch Tiered EDAHABIA Cards with Enhanced Withdrawal and Payment Limits

Algiers, Algeria– Monday, July 14, 2025 | Algérie Poste is finalizing a strategic overhaul of its EDAHABIA card system, aiming to launch a new tiered version of the widely used golden card in the coming months. The upgrade, which targets over 16 million current cardholders, is set to redefine daily banking access, offering elevated withdrawal and payment limits, enhanced services, and greater adaptability to users’ income and financial behavior.

According to insider sources, the revamped system introduces a tier-based model—classifying cardholders based on income level and spending habits. Each tier will offer distinct advantages, including higher ceilings for cash withdrawals and digital payments, along with premium services such as travel insurance for upper-tier users.

From Uniformity to Personalization

The current golden card will remain active and be reclassified as the “classic card” within the new structure. It will retain its existing functions, albeit under a unified modern design celebrating Algeria’s historical and cultural landmarks. Limits on this standard version will remain unchanged:

• ATM withdrawal (GAB): 50,000 DZD per day
• POS card payment: 200,000 DZD
• QR code payments via Baridi Pay: 500,000 DZD

In contrast, the tiered cards will cater to Algérie Poste’s broader ambition to align financial tools with individual needs. Depending on the user’s profile, higher daily caps and additional perks will become available, enabling a more robust integration of Algeria’s citizenry into the evolving digital banking landscape.

Algérie Poste is also preparing to formalize partnerships with commercial service providers to enhance the value of each card level. These partnerships may include loyalty programs, micro-insurance coverage, or access to priority services across sectors.

A Leap Toward Financial Modernization

Crucially, the upgraded cards are designed to expand electronic payment capabilities across high-value transactions, thereby reducing reliance on cash and strengthening Algeria’s digital economy. By incentivizing card-based operations, the initiative also supports the government’s broader goals of financial transparency and administrative efficiency.

Zakat Goes Digital: A First in Algeria

Parallel to the card reform, Algeria has achieved a national milestone by launching the country’s first digital zakat payment system. In partnership with Algérie Poste, the National Bureau for Waqfs and Zakat announced that citizens can now fulfill their Zakat al-Mal obligations through the Baridi Mob mobile application.

This initiative introduces QR code-based digital payments tailored for each wilaya, making the zakat process accessible, traceable, and consistent with contemporary technological norms. The move is expected to streamline the religious duty while boosting transparency and institutional trust.

A technical meeting on June 26 laid the groundwork for this initiative, which now positions Algeria among pioneering Muslim-majority countries leveraging fintech to modernize faith-based financial practices.

In the coming days, the Bureau of Waqfs plans to publish instructional videos and user guides to assist the public in navigating this new digital service.
