Algérie Télécom and the Italian telecommunications company, Telecom Italia Sparkle S.P.A., officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday in Rome.
This agreement, concluded between the CEO of Algérie Télécom, Adel Bentoumi, and the Executive Director of Telecom Italia Sparkle, Enrico Maria Bagnasco, aims to strengthen cooperation and the exchange of expertise in the field of telecommunications and modern technologies.
The strategic MoU paves the way for several structuring projects shaping Algeria’s digital future, including:
A New Algeria–Italy Submarine Cable, a major infrastructure project aimed at establishing a direct telecom submarine cable linking Algeria to Italy. This key project will significantly enhance Algeria’s international connectivity and consolidate its role as a regional digital hub.
The creation of a European Point of Presence (PoP) dedicated to Algérie Télécom. This initiative is expected to optimize access to digital services and reduce latency for Algerian users.
The Development of a Data Center in Algeria, supported by technical assistance from Sparkle, to build a modern data center that meets international standards. This project will bolster Algeria’s digital sovereignty and foster the development of innovative services.
The Launch of an Innovative Training Platform, focused on key areas such as cloud computing, networking, digital services, and especially cybersecurity. This platform will contribute to developing local skills and preparing the workforce for the technological challenges of tomorrow.
The signing of this memorandum took place on the sidelines of the official visit of the President of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to Italy, underlining the strategic importance of this collaboration for both nations.
