Algiers Gendarmerie Dismantles Cocaine Trafficking Network in Major Bust

Over 4 Kilograms of Cocaine Seized, Key Suspects Arrested, and Principal Fugitive Identified Following Coordinated Operation by Chéraga Investigative Unit and Zeralda Road Security Brigade

Algiers, Algeria | May 26th, 2025 — In a significant breakthrough in the fight against organized narcotics trafficking, Algeria’s National Gendarmerie has successfully dismantled a criminal network specialized in cocaine distribution within the Algiers province, seizing over four kilograms of the highly addictive drug. The operation was carried out by the Chéraga Research and Investigations Service, in coordination with the Zeralda Regional Road Safety Brigade, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the National Gendarmerie Command.

The operation unfolded as part of intensified efforts to combat all forms of criminal activity, particularly the trafficking of hard drugs. During a routine highway checkpoint on the Western Motorway, officers from the Zeralda Road Security Brigade stopped two suspicious vehicles for inspection. The driver of the first vehicle fled the scene, while the second vehicle was immediately impounded.

Upon inspection of the seized vehicle, officers discovered 3.3 kilograms of cocaine carefully concealed in wrapped packages. Two suspects were apprehended on-site and the vehicle was taken to a secure impound lot for further investigation.

The case was promptly handed over to the Chéraga Research and Investigations Service, which launched a comprehensive inquiry involving the detained individuals and intensified intelligence-gathering operations. These efforts led to the identification of the main trafficker who had escaped the initial bust.

Authorities conducted a targeted search of the fugitive’s residence, resulting in the seizure of an additional 850 grams of cocaine, along with a significant amount of cash and quantities of processed cannabis resin (kif traité).

With all legal procedures fulfilled, the statement confirmed that the suspects will be brought before the competent judicial authorities in the coming hours.
