Algiers, September 2025 – In a step toward modernizing Algeria’s air transport infrastructure, the Minister of Interior, Local Assemblies, and Transport, Saïd Saïoud, chaired on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, a high-level coordination meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters dedicated to the ambitious project of upgrading Algiers International Airport. The session brought together senior representatives of major aviation authorities and national institutions, underscoring the strategic scope of the initiative.

The modernization program is being carried out in strict compliance with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who has repeatedly stressed the need to transform the capital’s airport into a shining gateway for Algeria, one that can rival international hubs across the region and beyond. The vision revolves around integrating advanced smart technologies and creating a seamless travel experience that mirrors the most prestigious airports worldwide.

Outlining the Features of the New Project

At the heart of the plan is the introduction of cutting-edge innovations. Smart electronic gates (E-gates) will be deployed to reduce passenger processing time to mere seconds, while new-generation screening and scanning systems will drastically enhance both speed and security. Dedicated corridors will be established for first-class and business travelers, ensuring comfort and exclusivity. In addition, passenger walkways and facilities will undergo comprehensive refurbishment, with modern equipment aligned to the latest international standards.

The reforms aim to shift from a system reliant almost entirely on human intervention to one driven by intelligent, automated processes. This transition is designed to guarantee fluidity within the airport’s terminals, enhance the safety of passengers, and provide a level of comfort consistent with global expectations. In his concluding remarks, Minister Saïoud insisted on expediting the pace of implementation while upholding complete transparency and adherence to international regulations.
