Algiers Police Report Over 7,800 Arrests and Major Narcotics Seizures in August

Algiers – September 2025 – The Security Directorate of the wilaya of Algiers has released a striking report highlighting the scale of its operations in August 2025, with more than 7,800 individuals apprehended and record volumes of narcotics seized.
According to figures disclosed by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), police units across the capital handled no fewer than 7,022 criminal cases during the reference month. These spanned a wide spectrum of offenses, including assaults on individuals and property, drug and psychotropic substance trafficking, possession of prohibited bladed weapons, and a rising tide of cybercrime.
A total of 7,856 suspects were arrested and subsequently referred to judicial authorities after due completion of the necessary legal procedures. The scale of this outcome underscores the intensity of security operations that swept through Algiers in recent weeks, marking one of the most robust crackdowns of the year.
Equally revealing were the narcotics seizures detailed in the communiqué. Law enforcement officers confiscated nearly 13 kilograms of cannabis, over 3.6 kilograms of cocaine, 44 grams of heroin, and an alarming 301,000 psychotropic tablets of various types. Such figures reflect both the persistence of trafficking networks in the capital and the resolute determination of Algerian police to dismantle them.
The DGSN emphasized that public participation remains central to curbing urban crime and drug proliferation. To this end, citizens are urged to remain vigilant and make use of the dedicated communication channels at their disposal: the green hotline 1548, the emergency number 17, and the mobile application “Allo Police” for reporting suspicious activities or illicit behavior.
