Algiers Reinforces Public Transport and Security Measures for Eid al-Adha Festivities

Algiers, Algeria | June 5th, 2025 — As Algeria prepares to celebrate Eid al-Adha, the capital city of Algiers is rolling out a comprehensive public transport and security plan to guarantee efficient mobility and citizen safety during one of the most significant religious holidays of the year.

On Thursday, the Algerian Tramway Operating Company (SETRAM) released its Eid schedule, confirming that tram services in Algiers and six other major provinces—Oran, Constantine, Sidi Bel Abbès, Ouargla, Sétif, and Mostaganem—will begin as early as 5:30 AM on the first day of Eid.

This proactive measure ensures uninterrupted public transportation services during the religious holiday, aligning with the spirit of accessibility and community cohesion.

In Algiers specifically, SETRAM’s extended schedule will apply on both the first and second days of Eid, as follows:

• From El Annasser Station:
  First tram: 05:30 AM
  Last tram: 11:15 PM

• From Dergana Station:
  First tram: 05:30 AM
  Last tram: 09:45 PM

Trams will operate at intervals of 8 to 10 minutes, guaranteeing regular and reliable service to accommodate increased passenger demand throughout the festivities.

Meanwhile, the Urban and Suburban Transport Company of Algiers (ETUSA) has launched a special Eid transport plan aimed at facilitating both religious and traditional family movements.

In a statement issued Wednesday, ETUSA confirmed the deployment of early-morning bus services starting at 05:15 AM for those attending Eid prayer at the Great Mosque of Algiers, with return rotations scheduled immediately after the prayer concludes. Key departure points include 1er Mai, Audin Square, Martyrs’ Square, and Les Fusillés.

Additionally, to support families observing the Eid tradition of visiting cemeteries, ETUSA will operate six exceptional shuttle lines on the second and third days of Eid, from 7:00 AM to 1:40 PM. These shuttles are designed to ease travel for thousands of citizens paying respects to their departed loved ones.

Complementing the transport efforts, the Algiers Police Department has mobilized a large-scale security operation to maintain order and safety across the capital. With reinforced patrols and surveillance in high-traffic zones—including bus stations, metro lines, tramways, and intercity taxi terminals—the objective is clear: a peaceful and incident-free Eid for all residents.

At the Kharouba (Caroubier) bus terminal, one of the city’s busiest transport hubs, law enforcement officers have been stationed to control vehicular movement, guide travelers, and prevent any unlawful activity.

Police Commissioner Mehdi Ahbab, deputy communication officer of the Algiers provincial security directorate, affirmed:

“The security plan is designed to protect citizens’ lives and property while ensuring smooth traffic flow throughout the Eid period.”

In metro stations like El Harrach, uniformed and plainclothes officers are stationed alongside transport security units, visibly reassuring commuters and deterring any suspicious activity.
