Algiers, Algeria | June 1st, 2025 —  “All Algerian pilgrims are in good health and receiving optimal support,” declared Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Youcef Belmehdi, speaking from Mecca.

He emphasized that efforts will continue until their safe return to Algeria, in accordance with the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, “who attaches paramount importance to the well-being of Algerian pilgrims and ensures they are provided with the best possible conditions.”

According to the minister, Algerian pilgrims are performing the Hajj rituals in favorable conditions both in Mecca and Medina, thanks to the dedication of the Algerian Hajj Mission teams who are overseeing the smooth execution of the pilgrimage rites.

Belmehdi highlighted that “all services were prepared in advance, particularly with regard to accommodation and catering.” He also announced that an upcoming meeting will be held with religious guides and members of the Fatwa Commission to finalize details of the general operational plan for Arafat, Muzdalifah, and Mina.

In his capacity as Head of the Office for Algerian Pilgrim Affairs, Belmehdi presided over a meeting in Mecca to supervise the launch of a new digital application aimed at registering lost pilgrims. This initiative, developed by the National Office for Hajj and Umrah (ONPO), is part of a broader strategy to reinforce digital solutions in managing the pilgrimage mission.

The minister noted that digitalization is not new to the Office, which is among the first institutions to digitize its services. This year, he added, marked a qualitative leap with the implementation of digital tools for key handovers, bus tracking, tour organization, and the accurate location of pilgrims through geolocation technology.
