An Unprecedented Cruise Between Algeria and Tunisia: Romantika to Ring in 2026 on the Mediterranean

Algiers – November 2025 – An ambitious maiden cruise linking Algiers and Tunis will set sail from 29 December 2025 to 5 January 2026 aboard a five-star floating hotel, billed by its promoters as the largest event of North Africa this season. The project, driven by Algeria Universal Business Global through its agency B.A.S Travel in partnership with Digi Booking and the maritime operator MMC MADAR, places the Romantika at the centre of a week-long programme that intertwines tourism, cultural exchange and end-of-year celebration.
This is not simply a ferry crossing dressed in lights; it is conceived as a full-blown cultural and leisure spectacle. Organisers promise an immersive itinerary in which daytime discovery meets nocturnal celebration: family-friendly programming, entertainment for youth, and tailored activities for children, all staged against the glittering backdrop of the Mediterranean between two great Maghrebi capitals. The voyage stakes its claim as a new template for regional tourism cooperation—a deliberate effort to consolidate cross-border flows of travellers and to position Algeria as a generator of flagship events in the Maghreb.
At the heart of the cruise’s appeal is a curated programme of exclusive concerts and shows that will feature major Algerian and Tunisian artists. The line-up announced by organisers includes Nour El Houda Chikhaoui, Brahim Haderbeche, Youcef Nassim, Abdelaziz Benzin and DJ R-One among other invited performers from both shores. This twin-stage musical offering aims to fuse the two musical cultures into one continuous festival at sea, promising travellers an unforgettable New Year’s experience.
Dr. Moufida Amrani, the entrepreneur and project promoter, frames the cruise as the official launch of a broader maritime travel programme linking Algeria with several Tunisian cities. “This is the official start of our cruise programme between Algeria and multiple Tunisian ports, a first designed to strengthen tourist exchanges between the two countries,” she said, stressing the commercial and diplomatic ambition behind the initiative. Organisers describe the Romantika — chartered by MMC MADAR and operated with professional ship crew — as the ideal platform for a high-quality, internationally standardised service that welcomes diverse travellers seeking a distinctive holiday offering.
The Romantika’s entry into Algerian service follows wider moves by Madar Maritime Company to expand maritime connectivity and passenger services, a policy that has already seen the Romantika operate scheduled crossings and charter rotations in the region. Anchoring an event of this scale aboard a chartered cruise vessel signals the emergence of a maturing maritime tourism market in Algeria, one that can host large-format cultural events while linking coastal cities and stimulating the hospitality value chain.
Beyond the spectacle, the cruise expresses a clear strategic logic. Algeria Universal Business Global and Digi Booking have designed this week as a family-oriented, multi-demographic product that dovetails with school holidays and the high season for regional travel. From an industry perspective, the initiative aims to create new tourism itineraries, to keep tourism revenue circulating within the Maghreb, and to promote Algerian operators as capable of producing high-end regional events. If successful, the Romantika cruise could become the cornerstone of a sustained maritime festival circuit linking Algerian ports with neighbouring destinations.
Logistics and booking channels have already been publicised through Digi Booking and Madar’s reservation platforms, with an emphasis on packaged offers that cater to couples, families and groups. The Romantika’s onboard facilities — marketed for comfort and premium service — are being positioned to deliver the mixture of relaxation and spectacle the organisers promise, from daytime excursions to curated concerts and themed New Year celebrations. Travelers are encouraged to secure reservations early, given the event’s positioning as a flagship regional product.
