APS Fires Back at French Media for Vilifying Algerian Elections

Algiers, Algeria | September 9th, 2024 — The Algerian Press Service (APS), the nation’s official news agency, has fiercely rebuked the French press in response to a “relentless smear campaign” aimed at delegitimizing the September 7, 2024 elections in Algeria. This fiery denunciation follows increasing strain between the two countries, particularly concerning media coverage.

APS Accuses French Media of Waging a Coordinated Attack on Algerian Institutions

In a bold statement, APS lambasted several French news outlets for orchestrating an “anti-Algerian media chorus,” singling out France 24, which it mockingly referred to as a “garbage network,” for leading a biased and malicious narrative against Algeria. The agency criticized the French media’s consistent and predictable hostility toward Algeria during crucial national events like elections, accusing them of undermining Algeria’s institutions with falsehoods and fearmongering.

The APS firmly rejected these misleading portrayals of Algeria’s electoral process, accusing French media of deliberately ignoring the substantial progress the country has made since President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s administration. The agency stressed that Algeria has stabilized politically and is on the road to economic recovery, with international recognition from prominent institutions like the World Bank and IMF.

Contrasting Algeria’s Progress with France’s Domestic Turmoil

APS went a step further, highlighting “France’s own political and economic crises”. It compared Algeria’s stable trajectory to France’s struggles with political instability and mounting public debt, arguing that Algeria is better positioned in several key areas, including institutional resilience and financial discipline. This comparison served not only as a defense of Algeria but as a sharp critique of France’s attempts to interfere while grappling with its own internal challenges.

Algeria Stands Firm Against Foreign Meddling

In a defiant tone, APS reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to sovereignty, evoking the country’s historical fight for independence and its promise to the martyrs of the War of National Liberation. The agency declared that Algeria will not be swayed by external pressures or the influence of foreign media, particularly from France, a former colonial power that, according to APS, has failed to accept Algeria’s modern realities.

The article concluded with a powerful message: Algeria is strong, self-reliant, and will continue to pursue its path without succumbing to foreign agendas that attempt to distort its democratic achievements. The APS’s fierce rebuttal exemplifies the country’s enduring resilience in the face of external criticism, as it continues to rise as a stable force on the global stage.
