Algiers – October 2025 – The Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, is taking part, at the head of a delegation composed of senior officials from his sector, in the 27th Ministerial Meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), scheduled to be held on Wednesday and Thursday in Doha, Qatar, according to a communiqué issued by the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines.
This high-level meeting represents a crucial platform for evaluating the evolution of global gas markets, analyzing their short, medium, and long-term prospects, and exploring ways to stabilize supply chains, reinforce energy security, and maintain a fair balance between supply and demand. The overarching goal remains to preserve the shared interests of both producing and consuming nations, while adapting to the profound transformations currently reshaping the global energy landscape.
Chaired by Khalifa Rajab Abdulsadek, Libya’s Minister of Petroleum and Gas and the current president of the GECF, the meeting will bring together energy ministers from member and observer countries, alongside representatives of international organizations and institutions concerned with global energy governance. Discussions will center on enhancing cooperation, fostering coordination, and improving the Forum’s institutional efficiency and organizational management — all vital to consolidating the GECF’s role as a key intergovernmental mechanism for collective action in the energy sector.
The Doha ministerial gathering will provide an opportunity for participating states to exchange perspectives and deepen coordination on the major geopolitical, economic, and environmental challenges confronting the natural gas industry. It also seeks to reaffirm the pivotal role of natural gas as a clean, reliable, and indispensable energy source, and as a cornerstone of the global energy transition and sustainable development.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Arkab is expected to hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts from participating states to explore new avenues for cooperation and partnership in hydrocarbons and mining, including technological exchange, expertise sharing, and the development of innovative practices in the oil and gas industries.
The Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), headquartered in Doha, brings together 20 member states, collectively representing approximately 69% of the world’s proven natural gas reserves, 40% of commercial production, and 51% of global LNG exports. This makes the GECF the world’s leading platform for dialogue on the future of energy, aimed at ensuring the equitable utilization of natural resources and advancing the principles of sustainable development.
