Arkab Inaugurates Strategic Energy and Infrastructure Projects in Illizi, Reinforcing Algeria’s Role as a Regional Powerhouse

Algiers, Algeria | In a visit reflecting the strategic weight of Algeria’s energy sector, Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energies, Mohamed Arkab, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, presided over a series of inaugurations and inspections at the production hub of Tin Fouye Tabankort (TFT), one of the crown jewels of the national hydrocarbons industry. The Minister was accompanied by Sonatrach CEO Rachid Hachichi, the Secretary General of the National Federation of Petroleum, Gas and Chemistry Workers Hamou Tawahriya, and senior sector executives.

Human-Centric Infrastructure for Workers’ Welfare

Arkab launched his visit by inaugurating a newly built living complex dedicated to workers of the Ain Amenas Regional Directorate, under the pipelines transport activity. With a capacity of 126 residents, equipped with modern accommodation, dining, leisure facilities, and service areas, the project represents a decisive step in improving working and living conditions, a cornerstone in ensuring worker productivity and dignity.

Strategic Overview of TFT Production Hub

The Minister then inspected the TFT production directorate, receiving a detailed technical briefing on reservoir management, production development, and operational strategies. With 23 separation centers, four storage and loading facilities, a gas treatment unit, a power station, and two water injection centers, TFT boasts a production capacity of 54,000 barrels/day of crude oil and 5.2 million cubic meters/day of associated gas, including 2.4 million cubic meters/day earmarked for export.

Arkab emphasized that this hub constitutes a strategic axis in the national energy production architecture, reinforcing Algeria’s credibility as a reliable supplier to global markets.

Expanding Local Supply and Energy Security

The Minister further assessed the activities of Naftal in Illizi, where facilities include five service stations and two aviation centers, guaranteeing the steady provision of diesel, unleaded gasoline, and LPG to meet the rising local demand for petroleum products.

Cutting-Edge Gas Processing and Maintenance

At the TFT associated gas treatment unit, Arkab reviewed maintenance protocols ensuring uninterrupted operability. With a daily processing capacity of 4.4 million cubic meters, the facility undergoes systematic servicing every three years to maintain optimal performance.

Major Inauguration at Ain Tsila Gas Complex

In one of the visit’s most significant moments, the Minister inaugurated the Ain Tsila Gas Processing Complex (CPF). With two processing trains, the facility delivers a staggering 12 million cubic meters/day of gas, 1,800 tons/day of condensates, and 1,600 tons/day of LPG, backed by a 125 MW power generation unit and a 355 km pipeline network. Parallelly, a modern workers’ living base with a 220-bed capacity, built by Sonatrach’s National Civil Engineering and Construction subsidiary, was inaugurated.

A Leap in Energy Logistics: TFT Airport

Concluding his mission, Arkab inaugurated the brand-new Tin Fouye Tabankort Airport, a critical infrastructural addition designed to elevate logistical efficiency and enhance connectivity. Equipped with modern standards for passenger comfort and operational safety, the facility will significantly improve mobility for workers, operators, and partners while driving local development in Illizi.
