Arkab Leads High-Level Delegation to Burkina Faso to Deepen Strategic Energy, Mining Cooperation

𝓐𝓵𝓰𝓲𝓮𝓻𝓼 – 𝓕𝓮𝓫𝓻𝓾𝓪𝓻𝔂 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 – Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, has embarked on a high-level working visit to Burkina Faso, commencing Thursday and scheduled to continue through February 14, in a move that underscores Algiers’ growing commitment to strengthening its African partnerships.

Mandated by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Arkab is leading a substantial delegation that includes the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mourad Adjal; the CEO of Sonatrach, Noureddine Daoudi; the CEO of Naftal, Djamel Cherdoud; as well as senior officials from the hydrocarbons, mining, energy, and renewable energy sectors. The visit, according to a statement from the Ministry of Hydrocarbons and Mines, reflects a coordinated national effort to consolidate Algeria’s strategic footprint on the continent.

At the heart of the mission lies the ambition to expand and diversify bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Burkina Faso, particularly in the fields of energy, hydrocarbons, and mining. Discussions are expected to focus on broadening partnership frameworks, facilitating the exchange of expertise, and transferring Algeria’s technical know-how in exploration, production, and energy infrastructure development.

The visit is also firmly anchored in Algeria’s broader commitment to South-South cooperation and the reinforcement of Africa-centric partnerships. By positioning energy as a strategic lever for sustainable socio-economic development, Algeria seeks to promote a model of collaboration grounded in mutual benefit, capacity building, and long-term resilience.

During their stay, Arkab and his delegation are scheduled to hold a series of bilateral meetings with key members of the Burkinabè government, including the Minister of Energy, Mines and Quarries, Yacouba Zabré Gouba. Engagements will also extend to executives of companies operating in the energy, mining, and industrial sectors, with discussions aimed at identifying concrete projects and investment opportunities capable of strengthening economic integration between the two nations.
