Arkab Strengthens Strategic Energy Ties with Siemens Energy, Opening New Horizons for Investment and Green Transition

Algiers – November 2025 – Algeria’s drive to consolidate its position as a regional energy powerhouse gained fresh momentum on Monday, as Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines Mohamed Arkab received a high-level delegation from Siemens Energy at the ministry’s headquarters in Algiers. The meeting, held in the presence of senior officials from the sector, underscored the depth of the strategic partnership between the German multinational and Algeria’s national energy ecosystem, particularly through its longstanding cooperation with Sonatrach.
According to the ministry’s communiqué, the discussions focused on exploring new investment opportunities in Algeria, with particular emphasis on green hydrogen development, mining projects, and large-scale seawater desalination—three sectors deemed pivotal for the country’s industrial future and its vision for sustainable development.
Both sides conducted an extensive review of the state of cooperation between Siemens Energy and Sonatrach, highlighting what the communiqué describes as the “advanced level of relations” and the “strategic importance of the partnership that has steadily matured over recent years.” The talks also addressed avenues to deepen collaboration in key segments of the oil and gas industry, energy equipment manufacturing, engineering services, and advanced training and capacity-building programs, as well as strengthening local integration within major industrial projects.
The delegation was led by Dietmar Josef Siersdorfer, Executive Vice-President and Managing Director for the Middle East and North Africa region, who engaged with Arkab on expanding cooperation in areas linked to the global energy transition. Discussions placed strong emphasis on decarbonization initiatives, emission-reduction technologies, modernizing energy infrastructures, and scaling up Algeria’s potential in the production and export of green hydrogen. Mining-related investments and seawater desalination—viewed as promising sectors in Algeria’s industrial development framework—were likewise singled out as priority domains for future collaboration.
Arkab stressed the imperative of broadening partnerships with Siemens Energy in ways that ensure genuine technology transfer, the strengthening of national expertise, and the integration of cutting-edge technological solutions across hydrocarbon and mining projects. He also underscored Algeria’s determination to promote human capital, insisting that training and skills development must remain central pillars of all joint ventures.
Siersdorfer, for his part, commended Algeria’s commitment to advancing its hydrocarbons and mining sectors, reiterating Siemens Energy’s readiness to support the country’s ambitions through innovative solutions and state-of-the-art technologies. He expressed the company’s willingness to contribute to the implementation of strategic projects—especially those tied to decarbonization efforts, the promotion of local industry, and the training of specialized human resources—affirming Siemens Energy’s confidence in Algeria’s long-term vision and industrial potential.
