ALGIERS — In a diplomatic setting marked by continuity and measured engagement, Ambassador Dr. Swati Vijay Kulkarni hosted a dinner reception in the Algerian capital in honour of the visiting Indian delegation led by Dr. Neena Malhotra, Secretary (South) at India’s Ministry of External Affairs. The event brought together senior officials, diplomats, and economic stakeholders from both countries, reflecting the steady rhythm of Algeria–India relations at a moment of active bilateral coordination.

The reception unfolded in parallel with the presence of a nine-member Indian business delegation, led by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), currently participating in the 20th edition of the “Equip Auto Algeria” exhibition. Their attendance signals a sustained interest in deepening industrial linkages, particularly within the automotive sector, and aligns with broader efforts to expand commercial engagement between the two countries.

Among the Algerian officials present were Yacine Abib, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and the National Community Abroad at the People’s National Assembly, alongside committee member Abdelouhab Yaagoubi. Diplomatic representation included Algeria’s Ambassador to India, Abdennour khelifi, while institutional participation extended to Hichem Attar, Vice President of the National Federation of Hotels and Tourism. Representatives from Algeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also in attendance, alongside corporate actors from the pharmaceutical, fertilizers, automotive, and multimedia sectors, as well as members of the media.

The gathering provided a platform for exchanges across diplomatic and economic lines, reinforcing channels of communication that continue to underpin Algeria–India cooperation. Discussions unfolded within an atmosphere reflecting the practical orientation of bilateral relations, where institutional dialogue intersects with sectoral interests.

This reception coincides with a broader phase of intensified engagement between the two countries, notably the convening in Algiers of the 7th session of political consultations. Co-chaired by senior officials from both sides, the consultations revisited the trajectory of bilateral relations and identified avenues for further consolidation across political and economic domains. The session reaffirmed the enduring foundations of Algeria–India ties, shaped over decades and reinvigorated by recent high-level exchanges, including the State visit of Indian President Droupadi Murmu to Algiers in October 2024.

In parallel to the consultations, Dr. Neena Malhotra held meetings with Algerian officials, including Minister of State for Hydrocarbons and Mines Mohamed Arkab. These discussions addressed prospects for cooperation in hydrocarbons, mining, and seawater desalination. The Algerian side outlined investment opportunities across the energy value chain, while the Indian delegation expressed interest in expanding commercial engagement, particularly with Sonatrach, including in the marketing of liquefied petroleum gas and petroleum products. The exchanges also covered petrochemicals, fertilizers, phosphate transformation, and the development of the mining sector, encompassing research, exploration, and professional training.

Taken together, the reception and the surrounding diplomatic engagements reflect a structured and evolving partnership, where formal consultations, sectoral cooperation, and diplomatic interaction converge. Algeria and India continue to engage through coordinated frameworks that prioritize continuity, practical outcomes, and alignment with shared interests.
