Algerian Foreign Minister decries collapse of international law and unchecked aggression amid critical geopolitical tensions

Algiers, Algeria | June 21st, 2025 — Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, delivered a stark appraisal of the global geopolitical landscape during his address to the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held amid what he described as an “extremely critical, even tragic” international and regional context.

Attaf denounced the crumbling foundation of international law and the increasing disregard for the United Nations Charter, warning of a world order increasingly dictated by the brute logic of power. “The principles of law have given way to an unrestrained pursuit of domination,” he stated, “where aggressors are legitimized and victims are condemned.”

He cautioned against hegemonic ambitions aimed at reshaping the Middle East and the global order at large, highlighting the recent Zionist aggression against Iran as a dangerous precedent with the potential to destabilize the entire region.

Attaf also condemned ongoing, unpunished military strikes in Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen, as well as the prolonged war imposed by the zionist occupation on the people of Gaza, now entering its second year. “The occupier refuses to halt its hostilities,” he said, underscoring the persistent suffering of the Palestinian people and the broader implications of sustained impunity.

His remarks come as part of Algeria’s continued advocacy for a rules-based international order rooted in justice, sovereignty, and the legitimate rights of peoples under occupation.
