ALGIERS โ February 18, 2026 โ On the eve of the holy month of Ramadan, Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune addressed the nation with a message that blended reassurance, moral exhortation, and geopolitical conscience, urging citizens to uphold the spiritual essence of Ramadan while safeguarding social balance and national solidarity.
The president affirmed that Algeriaโs highest state authorities had taken extensive measures to ensure that markets remain adequately supplied with essential goods traditionally consumed during the holy month. The objective, he stressed, is to prevent shortages and preserve purchasing power during a period marked by heightened consumer demand, underscoring the governmentโs commitment to stabilising markets and protecting households.
Yet Tebboune paired this reassurance with a firm call for moderation. Ramadan, he reminded Algerians, is not merely a season of consumption but a sacred time of reflection, restraint, and ethical discipline. He urged citizens to avoid food waste and to remain mindful of the social responsibility that accompanies abundance, warning that extravagance contradicts the spiritual ethos of the fasting month.
The head of state also issued a stern caution against price speculation, declaring that any attempt to exploit Ramadan for illicit profit would be met with vigilance. Protecting citizens from opportunistic inflation, he suggested, is both an economic necessity and a moral duty.
In a gesture reflecting Algeriaโs enduring diplomatic posture, President Tebboune also expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people, recalling their continued suffering under occupation and reaffirming Algeriaโs unwavering support for their cause.
