In its report, PassBlue underscored that Ambassador Bendjama distinguished himself through his unwavering and forthright defense of the Palestinian cause, noting that he addressed his diplomatic peers and the international community with exceptional moral clarity. The outlet cited one of his most striking statements on Gaza, in which he declared: “What we are witnessing is not a war; it is an annihilation — not only of people, but of life itself.” This blunt articulation, the media noted, set him apart as a diplomat who refuses euphemisms in the face of mass human suffering.
The same poll also designated Philippe Lazzarini, the Swiss diplomat and Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), as “UN Personality of the Year 2025.” PassBlue highlighted that Lazzarini, who has led UNRWA since 2020, has guided the agency through the most severe crisis in its 76-year history, emerging as one of the most visible defenders within the UN system for millions of Palestinian refugees.
