Attaf: Algeria Secured a Crucial Amendment to the Gaza Peace Plan Resolution and Affirms that Mali’s Crisis Can Only Be Resolved Through Inclusive, Peaceful Political Dialogue

Algiers – November 2025 – In an address, Algeria’s Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, unveiled on Tuesday the diplomatic achievement secured by Algeria during negotiations on the United Nations Security Council resolution concerning the Gaza Peace Plan. Speaking during a press conference held at the MFA headquarters, Attaf announced that Algeria “successfully introduced an amendment of exceptional importance,” marking a significant turning point in the international handling of the Palestinian question.
Attaf explained that the amendment, arduously defended by the Algerian delegation, explicitly affirms that the “ultimate objective of the resolution is to create the necessary conditions to open a political horizon for resolving the Zionist-Palestinian conflict, enabling the Palestinian people to establish their independent and sovereign state.” The language inserted by Algeria, he stressed, safeguards the fundamental pillars of a just, lasting, and comprehensive solution as recognized by the international community and grounded in the established corpus of international legality.
He clarified that the adopted resolution “in no way undermines the foundations of a fair, durable, and definitive settlement to the Zionist-Palestinian conflict,” reiterating that the resolution itself recalls “all previous Security Council resolutions on the Palestinian question,” which collectively form the United Nations doctrinal backbone for ensuring the Palestinian people’s legitimate and legal rights—through ending the occupation, advancing their national project, and establishing their independent sovereign state.
Transitioning to regional security, the Foreign Minister delivered a stark assessment of the escalating situation in Mali, underscoring Algeria’s profound concern over the “unprecedented magnitude” of terrorist threats afflicting the country. Attaf lamented that the deterioration in Mali weighs heavily on Algeria, “not only because Mali is our immediate neighbour, but because Algeria has stood firmly by its side throughout every trial since its independence.”
He asserted unequivocally that the resolution of the Malian crisis “must pass through peaceful and inclusive political pathways,” urging Malian leaders to embrace “responsible dialogue and comprehensive reconciliation among all the children of the country, without exclusion and free from any foreign interference, whether political or military.” Algeria, he emphasized, remains one of the most committed defenders of Mali’s unity—its territory, its people, and its institutions—and continues to advocate for a solution rooted in national consensus.
