Attaf Engages in High-Level Talks with Foreign Ministers Across Five Continents, Reinforcing Algeria’s Global Diplomacy

Algiers – September 2025 – Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, has intensified his diplomatic activity on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly’s high-level segment, holding substantive discussions with counterparts from across five continents. The meetings underscored Algeria’s deepening role as a strategic interlocutor, committed to advancing bilateral cooperation and defending just causes on the global stage.
Attaf’s exchanges spanned Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America, reflecting Algeria’s broad diplomatic reach. He conferred with Uganda’s Foreign Minister Jeje Odongo Abubakar, Eritrea’s Osman Saleh, Burundi’s Edouard Bizimana, and India’s Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. He also met with Venezuela’s Yvan Gil Pinto, Belarus’s Maxim Ryzhenkov, Brunei Darussalam’s Dato Erywan Yusof, and the Maldives’ Abdullah Khalil.
With Uganda, discussions centered on the growing momentum in bilateral relations, particularly on the economic front, where both nations are preparing to convene the Intergovernmental Joint Commission to consolidate progress. Attaf’s talks with Eritrea and Burundi delved into regional issues while laying the groundwork for stronger bilateral and multilateral coordination, particularly in international fora.
The meeting with India reaffirmed the “positive dynamics” shaping ties following the Indian President’s recent state visit to Algeria, with both parties mapping out the path towards the next session of their Joint Commission.
Turning to Latin America, Attaf’s dialogue with Venezuela highlighted the historic bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and reaffirmed their shared commitment to defending global justice through coordinated action. Similar momentum marked his talks with Belarus, where the two ministers reviewed the outcomes of their April Joint Economic Commission and charted future steps to elevate cooperation ahead of upcoming high-level encounters.
In Southeast Asia, the meeting with Brunei Darussalam focused on strengthening the institutional and legal frameworks of bilateral relations, while also exploring ways to leverage Algeria’s recent accession to ASEAN’s Treaty of Amity and Cooperation to build bridges with the broader region. Finally, Attaf’s exchange with the Maldives spotlighted prospects for deepening economic ties and sustaining mutual support on international platforms.
Across all discussions, a recurring theme emerged: Algeria’s determination to expand its partnerships, reinforce multilateral coordination, and remain a steadfast advocate of equitable development and justice worldwide.
