Algiers – November 2025 – Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad, and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held successive meetings on Saturday with his counterparts from Togo and Angola, as well as the Namibian Minister of International Relations and Trade. These engagements come at a pivotal moment as Algeria prepares to host two major international events centred on Africa’s historical memory and continental security.

During his meeting with Togolese Foreign Minister Robert Dussey, Attaf conducted an in-depth review of bilateral cooperation between Algeria and Togo, with discussions extending to key issues concerning the African Union and the broader peace and security landscape in Africa. According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the dialogue reflected the shared desire of both countries to deepen political consultation and enhance coordination on continental matters of strategic importance.

Both sides emphasised the need to consolidate their aligned positions in the face of the multifaceted challenges currently threatening Africa’s stability, particularly in the Sahel—an epicentre of geopolitical tension, humanitarian crises, and security fragmentation. The call for enhanced coordination reflects an acknowledgement that many of Africa’s crises are interconnected and require cohesive African-driven approaches.

In a separate meeting, Attaf and Angolan Foreign Minister Téte António revisited the status of bilateral relations and reviewed preparations aimed at advancing the next stages of cooperation between their two nations. The talks also encompassed detailed exchanges on regional security dynamics and the evolving crises affecting the continent. These discussions acquire particular significance in light of Algeria’s current role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and Angola’s assumption of the presidency of the African Union. The convergence of these two leadership positions reinforces the weight of Algerian–Angolan coordination in African and international diplomatic fora.

Attaf’s diplomatic engagements continued with the reception of Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, Namibia’s Minister of International Relations and Trade. Both officials examined the progress of Algerian–Namibian bilateral relations, expressing a shared commitment to strengthening cooperation across all sectors. They also stressed the importance of harmonising African positions on issues of peace and security, particularly within the framework of deliberations at the United Nations Security Council, where African unity remains fundamental to advancing the continent’s collective priorities.

These high-level meetings come on the eve of two major conferences to be hosted by Algeria: the International Conference on “Colonial Crimes in Africa,” scheduled for November 30, and the 12th edition of the “Oran Process” on Peace and Security in Africa, set for December 1. The succession of diplomatic dialogues in Algiers underscores Algeria’s proactive role in shaping a unified African voice on historical justice, contemporary conflicts, and continental governance.
