Attaf Meets IAEA Director General Grossi: A Renewed Vision for Strengthened Nuclear Cooperation

Algiers – October 2025 – In a diplomatic encounter underscoring Algeria’s commitment to peaceful nuclear advancement and sustainable development, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, received on Monday in Algiers the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, who is on an official visit to Algeria.
According to an official communiqué from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting began with a one-on-one discussion between Minister Attaf and Mr. Grossi, followed by extended talks that brought together members of both delegations. The discussions provided an opportunity to conduct an in-depth review of the various facets of cooperation between Algeria and the IAEA, particularly regarding the peaceful applications of atomic energy.
Both parties explored prospects for expanding and deepening this cooperation, with special emphasis on domains aligned with sustainable development goals, including public health, agriculture, water resource management, and renewable energy. The dialogue reflected a shared determination to optimize the role of nuclear technology as a catalyst for socio-economic progress and environmental sustainability.
Furthermore, the talks addressed avenues for maintaining and enhancing joint contributions aimed at strengthening African nations’ access to nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. This aligns with Algeria’s steadfast advocacy for equitable technological development across the continent and its continued support for South–South cooperation under the auspices of international frameworks.
