Algiers, Algeria | June 14th, 2025 — As Algeria prepares for the most critical academic milestone in the lives of thousands of students, the 2025 Baccalaureate Examination will commence this Sunday, June 15, across the country and run until June 19. A total of more than 860,000 candidates, including 7,244 inmates from correctional institutions, are set to take part in this national exam session that determines access to university education and future academic prospects.

According to data released by the National Office of Exams and Competitions (ONEC), this year’s candidates will be distributed over nearly 3,000 exam centers nationwide. In light of this, the Ministry of National Education has implemented a comprehensive logistical and security framework to ensure the smooth running of the exam period.

Strategic Coordination and National Preparedness

To reinforce organizational readiness, a series of coordination meetings between the Ministry and the heads of examination centers were held last week. These preparatory sessions focused on last-minute adjustments related to exam logistics, monitoring procedures, and invigilation protocols.

To facilitate the examination process, convocation download platforms will remain active until the conclusion of the exams, allowing candidates to reprint their documents in case of loss. The Ministry reiterated that candidates must present both their convocation and a valid national ID card before entering the examination halls. The authorities have also designated specific rooms within each center for the secure storage of personal belongings, including all communication devices, which are strictly prohibited during examinations to combat academic fraud.

Massive National Mobilization

The Algerian State has once again deployed substantial human and material resources to uphold the integrity and credibility of this national educational event. From supervisors and examiners to national security officers ensuring the protection of examination centers, the full spectrum of state institutions has been mobilized.

As always, the Ministry of Education reassures all candidates that exam questions will exclusively cover content taught during the school year, particularly material completed by the end of the third trimester. This approach is designed to give every student a fair opportunity to demonstrate their academic abilities based on the curriculum they have studied.

Rising Numbers and Academic Trends

Algeria continues to witness a steady rise in baccalaureate enrollment. While 862,733 candidates were recorded in 2024, the number was 790,515 in 2023 and just over 700,000 in 2022, marking a clear upward trend in student participation.

Despite the rise in candidate numbers, success rates have improved steadily. In 2024, the national pass rate reached 58.28% (with a minimum pass mark of 10/20), compared to 50.63% in 2023, maintaining the revised threshold introduced in 2023.

Particularly notable is the exceptional performance in the mathematics stream, which recorded the highest success rate of 82.25% in the 2024 session. This achievement underscores a broader national strategy to bolster scientific excellence and STEM education.

A New Era for Mathematical Excellence

In this context, the State is redoubling its efforts to nurture Algeria’s brightest minds in science and mathematics. Following the model of the National Mathematics High School in Kouba (Algiers), the government has announced the creation of additional regional mathematics high schools. These will provide targeted academic support and elite training to students with a natural aptitude for math.

Moreover, to accompany this academic vision, Algeria has launched a technological hub in Sidi Abdellah (Algiers). The center offers specialized programs in mathematics, computer science, and advanced technologies, positioning itself as a national incubator for future innovators, digital experts, and tech-savvy talents across all wilayas.
