Badr Laidoudi Exposes Morocco’s Regime: “The Makhzen Engages in Childish Attempts to Export Its Internal Crises to Algeria”

Algiers – October 2025 – In an interview with “Al-Wataniya TV,” Moroccan journalist and activist residing in Spain, Badr Laidoudi, unveiled the stark reality behind the narratives propagated by the Moroccan regime through its media and social networks. Laidoudi denounced these orchestrated campaigns as desperate attempts to conceal internal crises and to project them outward, specifically targeting Algeria.
Highlighting the glaring disparities between the two nations, Laidoudi asserted: “Algeria is diligently safeguarding its sovereignty while advancing social and economic projects, whereas the Makhzen has effectively sold its own sovereignty.”
Widespread Repression Targeting Moroccan Youth
During his television appearance, Laidoudi criticized the harsh crackdown and arbitrary arrests imposed on protesting Moroccan youth, emphasizing that the methods of detention blatantly violate both domestic law and international human rights standards. He explained that young Moroccans opposing the diversion of national resources to the World Cup at the expense of public services have been abducted, intimidated, and humiliated.
He further noted that the protests were not limited to the superficial demands touted by so-called “Gen Z” movements. Rather, they encompassed broader societal grievances regarding the deterioration of healthcare, the education sector, and endemic corruption. “These are fundamentally popular demands, entirely disconnected from political manipulation or electoral opportunism,” Laidoudi stressed.
Lawless Methods of Suppression
The activist sharply criticized the repressive tactics of the Makhzen, underlining that arrests were conducted in a manner both demeaning and unlawful. He described the security apparatus’s approach as emblematic of a regime that claims to respect human rights publicly while acting with the opposite intent in practice.
A Generation Confronted by State Violence
On the impact of these methods on the continuity of protests, Laidoudi highlighted that the youth involved have no formal leadership to guide them collectively. He observed that the regime’s violent approach has generated profound anger beyond specific demands for education or healthcare, revealing deep frustration with state oppression. “This generation grew up entirely under Mohammed VI, and what has emerged has been a genuine shock to them,” he added.
Exiled Opposition as the Sole Free Voice
Regarding Moroccan opposition abroad, Laidoudi affirmed that no effective opposition exists domestically due to strict boundaries imposed by the state. He noted that those operating from abroad, particularly on social media, have played a decisive role in shaping public opinion and highlighting corruption, effectively becoming the only genuine voice exposing systemic failures.
Childish Attempts to Export Crisis to Algeria
On the controversial calls for protests in Algeria on October 3, Laidoudi described these maneuvers as “childish,” emphasizing that the Makhzen has long propagated fantasies of Algeria’s collapse. He stressed that Moroccan state media are deliberately exaggerating minor aspects of Algerian daily life in an effort to influence public perception—a tactic mirrored by certain Gulf and European media outlets.
“The Makhzen seeks to hide its own failures and export them abroad, attempting to rationalize its shortcomings in digital sovereignty, unemployment, and corruption scandals while deflecting blame onto others,” Laidoudi stated.
He concluded by highlighting the fundamental contrast: “Algeria has consistently worked to safeguard its sovereignty and implement socially and economically beneficial projects, while the Makhzen has sold its own sovereignty, leaving its people to confront poverty, systemic decay, and oppression.”
