Barcelona: Sid Ali Zerrouki Inspects Medusa Submarine Cable Landing Station

ALGIERS, March 7th, 2026 โ The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Sid Ali Zerrouki, conducted an inspection visit on Thursday to the landing station of the Medusa submarine cable, located in the city of Barcelona, Spain.
According to a statement from the ministry, the government official received detailed explanations from the project managers regarding the various technical components of this strategic infrastructure.
The visit also enabled Mr. Zerrouki to assess the progress of preparations for the commissioning of the submarine cable, scheduled for early next year.
The ministry noted that the landing station of the cable plays a strategic role in the telecommunications ecosystem, serving as a major gateway linking Algeria to Europe. This infrastructure is expected to enhance international internet capacity and improve communication quality, while enabling diversification of submarine cable routes.
The project will also support the development of 5G services, strengthen Algeriaโs digital sovereignty, and consolidate the countryโs technological infrastructure.
Launched from the port of Algiers in October 2025, the Medusa project aims to connect Algeria to this international network through two landing points, located in Algiers and the city of El-Kala, significantly increasing internet capacity and further securing Algeriaโs international connectivity.
