Algiers, Algeria | January 08th, 2025 — The 4th edition of the International Building and Construction Exhibition (Batimex) is set to take place from January 15 to 18, 2025, at the prestigious Sheraton Hotel in Annaba. This year’s event promises to be a major milestone for the industry, drawing attention to the dynamic growth of Algeria’s construction sector and the innovative solutions shaping the future of building and urban development.

Batimex has gained significant traction over the years, evolving into a premier platform for showcasing cutting-edge architectural solutions, sustainable construction practices, and technological advancements. According to the organizers, this year’s edition will be marked by the exploration of critical issues such as environmental challenges, the socio-economic impact of architecture, and the need for sustainable and inclusive urban spaces.

Promoting Local Expertise and National Products

During a press conference held at the Legacy Hotel in Algiers, the event organizers underscored Batimex’s role in highlighting Algeria’s growing capacity to meet regional demands through its local expertise and national products. Nadir Fidal, the director of Batimex, emphasized that this year’s theme, “Architectural Momentum: A Societal and Environmental Challenge,” reflects the urgent need for innovative solutions to address both environmental issues and the evolving demands of society.

Fidal noted, “This theme underscores the emerging architectural approaches necessary to meet environmental challenges, all while designing sustainable living spaces that are both inclusive and adaptable to societal changes.” The theme captures the essence of how architecture must evolve in response to climate change and population growth, seeking a balance between technological advancements and ecological preservation.

A Global Stage for Innovation

This year’s edition will bring together 100 exhibitors from 12 countries, primarily from Africa, showcasing the latest innovations, technologies, and products across a wide array of sectors. With an anticipated 10,000 visitors, Batimex will serve as an important hub for networking, business opportunities, and knowledge exchange. Fidal pointed out that the exhibition aims to enhance the positioning of Algerian products in the African market, in line with the government’s efforts to expand exports and strengthen Algeria’s industrial and commercial ties with the continent.

The growing significance of Batimex is reflected in the extensive participation of both national and international players in the building and construction industries. The Algerian government has actively supported initiatives to boost exports to Africa, evidenced by the opening of Algerian banks in key African countries like Senegal and Mauritania, alongside showrooms and trade fairs aimed at fostering trade relations.

Energy Efficiency at the Forefront of Building Innovation

Tahar Moussaoui, Director of Cooperation, Training, and Communication at the National Agency for the Promotion and Rationalization of Energy Use (Aprue), emphasized the critical role of energy efficiency in the construction sector, which remains the largest energy consumer, accounting for nearly 47% of final energy consumption in Algeria. Moussaoui highlighted that a series of conferences on energy transition will be held during the exhibition, focusing on the energy efficiency of building envelopes, household appliances, and the behavior of citizens.

Revitalizing the Eastern Region: A Hub for Industrial Growth

The exhibition also highlights the resurgence of the construction sector in Algeria, particularly in the eastern region, where a new momentum is being driven by large-scale industrial projects, including the integrated phosphate mining project. Akli Amrouche, co-founder of the start-up Warcha TIC, noted that the construction sector is undergoing a remarkable recovery following the stagnation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, thanks in part to public policies aimed at strengthening the industrial fabric.

Batimex 2025 will also feature B2B sessions, providing a unique space for direct negotiations between industry professionals. The event will be attended by a number of ambassadors and foreign delegations, further enhancing the exhibition’s international stature.

As Algeria strives to position itself as a regional leader in construction and sustainable urban development, Batimex stands as a crucial event for fostering innovation, collaboration, and growth within the building and construction sectors, both locally and across Africa. This exhibition promises to be a milestone in the nation’s ongoing journey toward achieving its ambitious development and sustainability goals.
