BDL Unveils Cross-Border E-Payment Service via Mastercard

Algiers – December  2025 – In a move poised to modernize Algeria’s financial ecosystem and expand its global economic footprint, the Banque de Développement Local (BDL) announced on Wednesday the launch of a pioneering cross-border electronic payment service enabling transactions from abroad through international Mastercard cards. This initiative—presented as a national first—marks a decisive step in Algeria’s digital and financial transformation.

This newly introduced service complements the e-payment channel launched last May through Visa, reinforcing BDL’s broader vision to diversify foreign-currency revenues and streamline commercial operations for Algerian enterprises. By integrating both Visa and Mastercard networks, the bank positions itself at the forefront of financial innovation, addressing the growing need for secure, fast, and internationally compliant payment solutions.

According to BDL’s statement, the service grants national companies the ability to market and sell their products and services globally through a secure digital platform aligned with international standards. This infrastructure, directly connected to the Visa and Mastercard networks, offers Algerian businesses unprecedented accessibility to global markets—whether in goods, digital services, tourism, telecommunications, or travel.

BDL emphasized that subscription to the new service is designed to be seamless and rapid. Eligible users include start-ups, SMEs, and major corporations, provided they comply with existing regulations governing e-commerce and financial compliance standards. This inclusive model reflects a broader economic strategy aimed at empowering Algerian enterprises of all sizes to integrate into international trade circuits.

Since May, electronic payments routed to Algeria via international cards have registered a remarkable surge, surpassing a total volume of one million euros. This growth, spanning sectors such as tourism, telecommunication services, and travel, highlights the strong demand for reliable cross-border payment mechanisms and confirms the readiness of Algerian companies to engage in global digital commerce.
