Under the patronage of Minister Kamel Rezig, Bellat Group inks a historic agreement with Bangladesh’s ACI Agros to export Algerian animal proteins, affirming its status as a national champion in the halal meat industry and a key player in Algeria’s economic diversification strategy.

Algiers, Algeria | May 20th, 2025 —  In a landmark for Algeria’s agri-food industry and its national export diversification strategy, Bellat Group, led by Lakhdar Bellat, has signed a $1.2 million contract to export animal proteins to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The agreement, concluded under the official supervision of Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, signals a pivotal moment in Algeria’s efforts to access new, high-potential markets.

The signing ceremony, held Tuesday in Algiers, brought together the two signatories: Lakhdar Bellat, General Manager of Bellat Group, and Mosharraf Hossain, CEO of ACI Agros (Ashta) of Bangladesh, marking a first-of-its-kind export contract for Algerian animal proteins at the national level.

This contract will raise Bellat Group’s total annual export value to $3.5 million, following successful previous exports worth $2.5 million over the past three years. The deal opens up new commercial pathways in the South Asian halal protein sector, a market experiencing growing demand for rigorously certified, high-quality meat products.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Trade, this achievement underscores Bellat Group’s strategic foresight, determination, and long-term planning in overcoming substantial challenges tied to the export of animal proteins — a product class subject to stringent international health, safety, and halal certification requirements.

Bellat Group: Championing Algeria’s Non-Hydrocarbon Export Revolution

Bellat Group’s rise to prominence is the result of decades of structured growth, quality assurance, and operational excellence. As a pioneering force in Algeria’s halal meat sector, the group is actively shaping the country’s international trade identity by delivering certified products that meet global standards.

With this latest move, Algeria positions itself as a credible player in the halal protein export arena and a serious contender in South-South economic cooperation — a cornerstone of the government’s foreign trade policy.

The Ministry of Trade hailed the deal as a model of private-sector success, showcasing how Algerian companies can unlock new value beyond hydrocarbons and contribute meaningfully to long-term international partnerships.

A Global Vision Rooted in Innovation and Tradition

Operating across more than 60 countries, Bellat Group boasts a robust network of 42 factories located in France, Portugal, Spain, Romania, Poland, Belgium, Canada, and the United States, underscoring its capacity to serve international markets with agility and scale.

Beyond commercial reach, the company’s strength lies in its commitment to innovation while preserving tradition. Through strategic research collaborations, Bellat continues to develop product lines that honor its five-decade legacy while responding to contemporary consumer needs and evolving global standards.
