Participation of Zionist Golani Brigade in “African Lion” Maneuvers in Morocco Signals Rabat’s Disturbing Shift from Silent Complicity to Active Military Collaboration Against Palestine

Algiers, Algeria | May 27th, 2025 — In a chilling escalation of military normalization between Rabat and the Zionist entity, Moroccan political analyst Badr Laidoudi has sounded the alarm over the secretive involvement of the Zionist army’s infamous Golani reconnaissance unit in the latest “African Lion” military exercises, currently underway in the southern Moroccan city of Agadir. Speaking on Tuesday to Algerian International Radio’s “Guest of the Hour” program, Laidoudi warned that this development points to a dangerous transformation in Moroccan military doctrine—one that may soon see Moroccan soldiers deployed in future offensives against the Palestinian people.

“These drills are not innocent by any stretch of the imagination,” Laidoudi declared. “This is a concrete step toward the full military integration of the Moroccan regime into the Zionist war machine targeting Gaza.”

The “African Lion” joint exercises, which involve multiple Western powers and regional allies, have taken on a disturbing dimension with the reported presence of Zionist troops on Moroccan soil. While the Moroccan state has remained tight-lipped, failing to officially confirm or deny the presence of the Golani Brigade—a unit notorious for its war crimes in Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria—the silence from Moroccan civil society and political institutions has been deafening.

From Covert Support to Active Combat Readiness

Laidoudi sharply criticized the absence of any reaction from Morocco’s parliament, media, civil society, or political parties. “Why is there not a single question being asked about this? Why is no one objecting to Moroccan troops training alongside a unit with Palestinian blood on its hands?” he asked. “This is not mere normalization—this is militarized betrayal.”

He noted that since the launch of the Palestinian resistance operation “Al-Aqsa Flood” in October, the Moroccan monarchy—referred to as the Makhzen regime—has not only maintained its pro-Zionist policies but deepened its alliances with Tel Aviv across military, diplomatic, economic, and media domains. “Despite the brutal massacres committed by the Zionist entity in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and Yemen, Rabat continues to court this regime without shame or hesitation,” he added.

Betrayal for Power and Western Favors

Laidoudi argued that Morocco’s normalization with the Zionist entity is not driven by concern for peace or regional cooperation, but by the regime’s quest to secure Zionist and American backing for its domestic and regional ambitions—especially in the Western Sahara dossier. “This is a regime willing to sell the Palestinian cause for illusions of support. Yet these concessions have brought Morocco no real gains—neither in military strength nor economic prosperity.”

He went further, linking Morocco’s collaboration with the Zionist regime to a broader geopolitical agenda aimed at undermining Algeria’s strategic depth in Africa. In particular, he cited Rabat’s push to reposition France in the Sahel through Moroccan channels, an attempt to obstruct the Algeria-backed Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline—an energy megaproject vital for Africa’s future.

A Militarized Axis of Betrayal

The participation of the Zionist army—especially the Golani Brigade—in African Lion is a red line crossed, marking a new phase in the Makhzen’s betrayal of the Palestinian cause. Far from symbolic gestures, this is the practical preparation of a joint military front, one that could be mobilized against the Palestinian resistance under the pretense of “counter-terrorism.”
