Benedict Oramah: “President Tebboune Embodies a Visionary Leadership for Africa’s Economic Renaissance”

Algiers – September 2025 – The President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), Benedict Oramah, delivered a powerful tribute to Algeria and to President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s forward-looking leadership, during the Sub-Sovereign 2025 conference held on the sidelines of the 4th Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF-2025) at the Safex Exhibition Palace in Algiers. His intervention, marked by strong references to Algeria’s pivotal role, underscored both the urgency of Africa’s economic transformation and the decisive influence of enlightened governance.
“This meeting is a network for dialogue and investment aimed at renewing African leadership. With President Tebboune, who greatly supports development on our continent, we have a tangible example of vision and determination,” Oramah declared before an audience of policymakers, investors, and institutional leaders.
Highlighting the continent’s enduring disparities, Oramah emphasized the imperative of closing development gaps that continue to hinder Africa’s progress despite its immense potential. “It is essential to deliver higher-quality public services, create jobs, and reinforce the integration of African states. Leadership is the lever that will secure lasting economic transformation,” he affirmed.
He drew a striking comparison between income inequalities across the continent and those in other regions, noting that “disparities in Algeria remain relatively low, thanks to the strategies implemented by its government. This is an asset that must be harnessed to inspire other African nations.”
Positioning Algeria as a central platform for continental growth, Oramah praised its dual role as both an African and Euro-Mediterranean hub: “Algeria is a continental economic hub. It is not only a crossroads for Africa but also a gateway to Europe. It offers tremendous opportunities, particularly in energy and other strategic sectors.”
In line with the Sub-Sovereign 2025 vision, Oramah urged African stakeholders to capitalize on Algerian initiatives to strengthen regional cooperation. “Let us seize these opportunities. Let us give a new impetus to African partnerships by sharing Algeria’s experience. Only by uniting our strengths can we realize the ambitions of the AfCFTA,” he asserted.
Reaffirming Afreximbank’s financial commitment to Africa’s growth, Oramah revealed that the institution has already financed $13 billion in projects in Nigeria and aims to provide an additional $2 billion to help member states meet their development priorities. He also underlined the transformative role of digital technologies in making opportunities concrete and in building a more competitive Africa.
Concluding his intervention, Oramah reiterated his determination to consolidate bridges between Africa and its global partners. He affirmed that regional integration, supported by visionary leadership, remains the cornerstone of the continent’s future. “Algeria, under the leadership of President Tebboune, shows the way. It is an example we must acknowledge and replicate,” he concluded with conviction.
