The Bit Bait company boasts a number of innovative patents in the field of hygiene, some of which have gained international recognition (in Geneva and the UAE). These patents utilize natural, non-biological, and non-chemical raw materials in insecticide and rat poison products. The use of organic products ensures that human health and the environment are not negatively impacted. The key ingredient in these products is gypsum, a natural hydrated monoclinic calcium sulfate, which blocks the digestive system of pests, causing instant mummification. This prevents the decomposition of the pests and eliminates any unpleasant odors.
Rafaat Zeinou, the manager of Bit Bait Algérie, has extensive experience in the field of hygiene, having worked for many years in a cleaning company before venturing into entrepreneurship in 2001. Her experience in the industry led her to seek out alternative solutions to traditional vaporizing insecticide products, which she found to have a negative impact on human health and the environment. Through her research, she developed a gel-based alternative that utilized secondary materials, such as chocolate, rather than raw materials like potatoes and eggs, to avoid penalizing the mass consumption market.
Bit Bait’s first patent was registered in 2001 for this innovative gel-based product. Once the patent was validated and registered, the company applied for the former ANSEJ scheme to benefit from triangular funding.
The company’s founder, who had a passion for creating effective and safe insecticides, faced numerous challenges when starting her business. However, with the help of funding from ANSEJ, a bank, and her personal contribution, she was able to overcome these obstacles and establish her company in 2004.
Despite facing financial difficulties, the founder and her team, composed of 18 employees, persevered and developed a highly effective insecticidal gel based on boric acid. This product proved to be a game-changer in the industry, and the company continued to produce it for seven years. However, the team’s ambition did not stop there, and they began to explore other formulas. This led to the development of a national and global innovation, gypsum-based rat poison insecticide products. These products are 100% natural, organic, and without chemicals, making them safe for human consumption, especially for children.
The company’s commitment to safety and innovation has earned them recognition both nationally and internationally. They registered their patent at the WIPO in Geneva, which was recognized as an Algerian innovation 18 months later. This certification has allowed them to expand their operations and target various industries, including cleaning companies, agri-food companies, nurseries, schools, and agricultural farms. Besides, the company snatched a number of prizes in different countries and capitals, including Addis Ababa.
The manager called upon the authorities to grant her company all the necessary facilitations with the aim of issuing a decree on the non-toxic insecticides.
