Bouamama Charts a New Course for Algeria’s Communication Sector

Algiers, September 2025 – Barely days after his appointment as Minister of Communication, Zouheir Bouamama has wasted no time in setting the tone for his mandate. On Wednesday, he convened his first official coordination meeting with the ministry’s senior executives, in what participants described as an “important and foundational” session to establish a new dynamic in the sector.

The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Algiers, focused on laying out the strategic directions of his action plan, with a strong emphasis on revitalizing media governance, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring the delivery of quality services to citizens. Bouamama underlined the critical importance of seamless coordination among the ministry’s departments and services, stressing that internal complementarity of expertise is an indispensable condition for achieving the objectives defined by the public authorities.

At the heart of his agenda lies the swift resolution of long-standing administrative and organizational bottlenecks that have hindered institutional effectiveness. Bouamama also highlighted the urgent need to improve working conditions for civil servants and employees, insisting that “a motivating and supportive environment is essential to boost performance and stimulate innovation.”

Among the most decisive measures announced was the creation of an immediate working group, drawing on the ministry’s existing expertise and, if needed, external specialists. Its mandate: to finalize without delay the revision of pending regulatory texts in line with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s directives. Another central reform will involve restructuring certain institutions under the ministry’s supervision, with the dual aim of clarifying their mandates and strengthening operational efficiency.

Beyond administrative reforms, Bouamama unveiled plans for major projects in audiovisual media, print, and digital journalism, to be undertaken in close collaboration with professionals, journalists, and key stakeholders. “It is imperative to work hand in hand with practitioners to build a sector that is both solid and credible,” he declared, reaffirming his commitment to participatory reform.

Concluding the session, the minister issued a call to initiative, commitment, and rigor, urging his teams to achieve a “genuine qualitative leap in professional performance” and to rise to the expectations placed upon them.
