Algeria and Norway Discuss Enhanced Bilateral Cooperation as Oslo Reiterates Support for Just International Causes

Algiers, Algeria | June 4th, 2025 — In a diplomatic encounter underscoring growing ties and mutual respect, the Speaker of the People’s National Assembly (APN), Brahim Boughali, received on Wednesday the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Algeria, Her Excellency Therese Loken Gheziel, for high-level discussions on the expansion of bilateral relations and shared global values.

According to a communiqué issued by the APN, the meeting centered on exploring ways to reinforce cooperation between Algeria and Norway, particularly in the economic and energy sectors. Both sides expressed a strong commitment to broadening partnerships in strategic areas such as advanced technologies and seawater desalination, while also intensifying cultural exchanges that further cement the historical friendship between the two nations.

Speaker Boughali emphasized Algeria’s readiness to deepen institutional ties with the Norwegian Parliament and hailed Norway’s “principled and courageous positions” on international justice, specifically its unwavering support for the Palestinian and Sahrawi peoples.

“We value Norway’s steadfast support for the Palestinian and Western Saharan causes, which reflects a deep respect for international legality and human dignity,” Boughali stated during the meeting.

Ambassador Gheziel, in turn, lauded the “depth and continuity” of Algerian-Norwegian relations and highlighted her country’s enduring economic presence in Algeria through robust Norwegian investments and companies operating across key sectors. She reaffirmed Norway’s commitment to humanitarian engagement, with particular emphasis on supporting the Palestinian people amid ongoing challenges.
“Norway remains dedicated to upholding human rights and alleviating suffering wherever it may be, especially in Palestine,” she noted.

The meeting was also attended by Monder Bouden, Vice-Speaker of the APN in charge of foreign relations, who underscored the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in amplifying shared values of peace, solidarity, and sovereign rights.

The renewed dialogue between Algeria and Norway comes at a time of global reconfiguration, as both countries seek to strengthen multilateral cooperation and defend the principles of justice, self-determination, and peaceful coexistence—principles both nations have long championed on the international stage.
