The pioneering project, carried out within the framework of a structured academic research program at the university’s Department of Chemistry, offers a promising alternative to petroleum-based insulators commonly used in the country. This Algerian innovation joins an elite group of only four other similar inventions previously registered worldwide. The new compound represents the fifth of its kind internationally, reinforcing the country’s growing research capabilities and scientific ambition.

While petroleum derivatives continue to dominate the insulation materials market in Algeria, this novel plant-based solution may pave the way for greener, domestically-produced alternatives in sectors such as electrical engineering, automotive manufacturing, and thermal management systems.

Developed as part of a final-year research project, the invention underscores the valuable role of academic institutions in fostering scientific creativity and practical solutions to national and global challenges.
