Algiers, Algeria | Algeria’s Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib, affirmed on Thursday that the upcoming Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF-2025), set to be hosted by Algeria in September next year, will serve as a pivotal platform to highlight the vast commercial and economic capacities of the African continent.

Speaking at a high-level roundtable convened as part of the United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries, Chaib emphasised that the IATF will not only promote intra-African trade but also demonstrate Africa’s readiness to position itself as a competitive and strategic player in the global economy.

Addressing the session themed “Harnessing the Transformative Potential of Trade, Facilitating Commerce, and Advancing Regional Integration for the Benefit of Landlocked Developing Countries,” Chaib recalled Algeria’s sustained commitment to regional infrastructure projects aimed at unlocking access for landlocked African states. He stressed that Algeria has consistently advocated for the establishment of a fair and balanced global economic order, and remains firmly engaged in initiatives to stabilise global markets—particularly in the strategic sphere of energy commodities.

The Secretary of State further underscored the imperative of working in a spirit of solidarity and cooperation, calling for enhanced technical and technological assistance to these nations to boost their participation in global value chains.

Chaib also participated in the closing session of the UN conference on Friday, which concluded with the adoption of the Awaza Political Declaration and the launch of the Awaza Action Plan (2024–2034)—a framework endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in December last year, designed to accelerate sustainable development for landlocked developing countries over the next decade.
