Charlatan Arrested in Algiers for Practicing Witchcraft and Public Deception

Police Seize Sorcery Tools and Talismans as 36-Year-Old Faces Prosecution for Fraud, Magic Practices, and Moral Violations

Algiers, Algeria | May 15th, 2025 — Algerian security forces in the capital have apprehended a 36-year-old man accused of practicing witchcraft and sorcery in several neighborhoods of Algiers, according to a statement issued Thursday by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

The arrest was carried out by the specialized brigade for the protection of persons and property under the First Judicial District Police of Algiers Centre. The operation followed a tip-off about an individual engaged in occult practices. After launching a thorough investigation, officers caught the suspect red-handed, in the act of performing sorcery. Authorities also confiscated various items, including ritualistic tools and talismans, used in these illicit practices.

The suspect has been referred to the competent regional public prosecutor and is facing a broad range of serious charges. These include:

– Willful promotion of narcotics by any means;
– Violation of the sanctity of private life;
– Practicing sorcery and witchcraft as a profession;
– Exploiting these acts for personal gain, resulting in physical, moral, and reputational harm to others;
– Public seduction;
– Operating a place of debauchery and engaging in immoral activities;
– Fraud, charlatanism, and deception.
