Algiers – December 2025 – The economic partnership between Algeria and China has entered a new phase of consolidation and expansion, as bilateral trade volumes exceeded $10 billion this year, according to Chinese Ambassador to Algeria, Dong Guangli. Speaking at a press conference held on Wednesday afternoon in Algiers, the diplomat indicated that commercial exchanges are registering an upward trajectory, with indicators suggesting that the current growth rate may surpass that of the previous year.
The announcement follows the Algeria–China Business and Investment Forum, during which eight major agreements were signed, totaling more than $2 billion in initial investments. Dong Guangli presented these accords as a tangible embodiment of the two nations’ commitment to advancing strategic cooperation, underscoring their potential to stimulate industrial development and attract further capital flows.
Central to the ambassador’s remarks was the emphasis on large-scale structural projects currently underway. Among them are the National Digital Services Center and the East-West mining corridors, both of which are intended to reinforce Algeria’s infrastructure capabilities and accelerate technological innovation. In the same context, the inauguration of direct flights connecting Guangzhou and Algiers is regarded as a decisive step toward enhancing human mobility, expanding tourism, and consolidating economic exchanges.
On the cultural and educational front, cooperation between the two countries is intensifying. The opening of the first Confucius Institute at the University of Algiers 2 is presented as a landmark initiative, reflective of the growing interest among Algerian youth in Chinese language and culture. Parallel to this, medical cooperation continues to be described as a historical pillar of bilateral relations, with China having dispatched 28 medical teams that have treated more than 27 million patients over 62 years.
Dong Guangli further reiterated China’s readiness to assist Algeria in developing local production capacities, particularly in high value-added raw materials. He highlighted the mining sector as a priority area, and cited the Gara Djebilet iron ore project as an emblematic example of strategic cooperation with far-reaching economic implications.
Concluding his address, the ambassador affirmed the resilience and continuity of the Sino-Algerian strategic partnership, rooted in sustained coordination at the highest political levels. He pointed to reinforced economic, cultural, and industrial exchanges, coupled with a shared commitment to safeguarding the core interests of both nations, as the cornerstone of a partnership that continues to expand in depth, scope, and ambition.
