Celebrating 20 Years in Algeria, Higer Unveils New ‘V Series’ Buses and Announces Over $2 Million Investment in After-Sales Infrastructure

Algiers, Algeria | May 11th, 2025 — In a significant boost to Algeria’s industrial and transport sectors, Chinese bus manufacturing leader Higer has officially announced plans to establish a bus assembly plant in the city of Sétif. The decision, part of the company’s long-term strategy to consolidate its foothold in the Algerian market, was unveiled during a high-profile ceremony marking two decades of Higer’s operations in Algeria.

The announcement was made by Hu Wang Shuping, President and CEO of Higer Group, who affirmed that the new assembly unit aims to support the country’s local manufacturing capacity while reducing reliance on imports. Algeria already represents a key strategic market for Higer, with a substantial share of the public transport sector attributed to the company’s fleet.

Highlighting the company’s innovative direction, Mr. Hu also presented Higer’s newly developed V Series buses, the result of three years of research and development. The series boasts modern, energy-efficient technologies, aligning with Algeria’s national drive toward greener, more sustainable transport solutions.

Reinforcing its long-term commitment, Higer will also invest over $2 million to establish a comprehensive after-sales support network across the country. This includes the creation of 16 maintenance stations and 4 spare parts storage centers, designed to enhance operational reliability, reduce downtime for transport operators, and improve customer service.

The decision to localize production through a facility in Sétif is expected to generate new employment opportunities, stimulate industrial subcontracting, and support Algeria’s economic diversification policy, particularly in the manufacturing and automotive sectors.
