Civil Protection Issues Red Alert Warning as Violent Winds Expected Across Several Regions

In an official statement, the Civil Protection stressed the necessity of complying with safety guidelines in order to prevent domestic accidents and road traffic incidents linked to adverse weather conditions. Citizens were reminded that precautionary measures remain essential to minimizing risks during periods of extreme meteorological events.
To this end, the Civil Protection recommended securing or fastening objects exposed to strong winds or liable to damage, preparing emergency lighting equipment such as flashlights, and protecting glass installations by closing shutters, blinds, curtains, and retracting awnings. Citizens were further advised to remain away from windows, balconies, trees, and electricity poles, and to ensure that vehicles, animals, and equipment are placed in safe shelters.
Road users were also urged to significantly reduce speed in order to maintain adequate visibility and avoid potential obstacles. The Civil Protection additionally called on citizens to refrain from approaching coastal areas, lakes, and rivers, strictly prohibiting outings at sea or on waterways during the forecast period. Construction professionals were instructed to place cranes in a weather-vane position to prevent accidents.
Moreover, citizens were advised to check weather forecasts and road conditions prior to any travel. In the event of unavoidable travel, it is imperative to avoid wooded areas, limit driving speed, and inform a close contact of the departure time, destination, and expected arrival.
According to the National Office of Meteorology, violent winds are expected to affect several wilayas on Wednesday and Thursday. The Special Weather Bulletin, classified at a Red Vigilance Level, concerns the wilayas of Chlef, Tipasa, Algiers, Boumerdรจs, Tizi Ouzou, Blida, and Aรฏn Defla, where westerly to south-westerly winds may reach or exceed 120 km/h between 14:00 and 21:00 on Wednesday.
The bulletin also covers the wilayas of Bรฉjaรฏa, Jijel, Skikda, Annaba, El Tarf, Sรฉtif, Mila, Constantine, Batna, northern Khenchela, Oum El Bouaghi, and northern Tรฉbessa, where winds from the west to south-west are expected to reach or exceed 120 km/h from Wednesday at 19:00 until Thursday at 01:00, the same source indicated.
