Communication Minister Mohamed Meziane Pays Solemn Tribute to Fallen Journalists

On World Press Freedom Day, Meziane honors the memory of media professionals who sacrificed their lives in defense of truth and national duty.

Algiers, Algeria | May 3rd, 2025 — In a solemn gesture marking the World Press Freedom Day, observed annually on May 3, the Minister of Communication, Mohamed Meziane, paid tribute on Saturday morning to the martyrs of the journalism profession. The commemoration took place at the Press Freedom Square in Algiers, a symbolic venue dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives in the line of media duty.

 

On this occasion, Minister Meziane laid a wreath of flowers at the memorial honoring the fallen journalists. He also recited the Fatiha — the opening chapter of the Holy Qur’an — in prayer for the repose of their souls.

By his presence, Minister Meziane reaffirmed the nation’s deep respect for journalists who have paid the ultimate price in their pursuit of truth, transparency, and public service.
