Controversy Brews as Moroccan Jews Seek Property Claims in Tangier

ALGIERS- In recent times, Tangier, a historic Moroccan city, has become the center of a growing controversy. Moroccan Jews, invoking alleged historical property rights, have embarked on a series of legal battles aiming to reclaim land and homes that they claim were once theirs.

The Legal Dispute in Tangier
The conflict in Tangier revolves around over twenty Moroccan families facing legal action that could result in their eviction from their homes in the Benkirane neighborhood. A company named “Cherif Imobilier” has taken legal measures to reclaim properties they argue were originally owned by Jewish settlers who were deported decades ago. The company claims legal ownership of approximately 14 hectares of land in the area.
Moroccan Jews, often supported by “Cherif Imobilier,” demand compensation and the return of properties they maintain were once in their possession. This dispute arises within the context of policies and laws set by the Moroccan government, emphasizing the right of Jews to return to their homeland.
Resident Perspective
The current residents, on the other hand, assert their ownership of these properties for over fifty years, backed by legal documents confirming their rights. They argue that they are the legitimate owners and have called on these legal documents to substantiate their claims.
Compensation Demands
Beyond Tangier, the Zionist entity is pursuing compensation claims from some Arab countries, amounting to an estimated $250 billion. These claims revolve around properties and assets that Jewish communities lost when they were compelled to migrate from these nations after the establishment of the Zionist entity.
Gila Gamliel, the Zionist entity’s Minister of Social Equality, has strongly supported these compensation demands, asserting that it is time to rectify historical injustices against Jews in seven Arab countries and Iran, returning hundreds of thousands of Jewish-owned properties.
The Future of Compensation Claims
It is reported that the Zionist government, in collaboration with an international auditing company, has been working on estimating the value of properties and assets allegedly formerly held by hundreds of thousands of Jews in the Middle East and North Africa.
In 2010, the Zionist entity passed a law mandating that any final peace agreement with Palestine should address the issue of financial compensation for Jews who were forced to leave Arab countries and Iran. This legislation serves as a justification for the Moroccan government’ stance on the Tangier situation, as the Abraham Accords signed by Morocco ensure that Jews can seek to reclaim what they believe to be their properties.

According to reliable sources, the Zionist authorities are presently in the process of preparing a significant project with the objective of reclaiming properties from several countries. Specifically, Tel Aviv intends to demand a substantial sum of no less than $35 billion from Tunisia, and an additional $15 billion from Libya.

It is anticipated that the total value of the reclamation demands made by Tel Aviv in Iraq, Morocco, Syria, Egypt, Yemen, Iran, Libya, and Tunisia will exceed a staggering $250 billion.

Notably, the compensation project appears to exempt Algeria and Lebanon from financial compensation claims.
