Council of the Nation President Hails President Tebboune’s “Historic and Unprecedented” Socio-Economic Decisions

Algiers – December 2025 – Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Azouz Nasri, delivered a strong endorsement on Monday of the latest measures announced by President Abdelmadjid Tebboune during the most recent Council of Ministers meeting, particularly the increase of the National Guaranteed Minimum Wage (NGMW) and the unemployment allowance.
Speaking at a plenary session devoted to the presentation and debate of the 2026 Finance Bill, Nasri emphasized that these “historic and unprecedented” decisions reflect the determination of the State—under the leadership of President Tebboune, whom he described as the guarantor of the people’s interests—to improve citizens’ living standards and meet their legitimate expectations. He argued that such measures stand as “new achievements to the credit of the President of the Republic and his enlightened policy, entirely devoted to the welfare of citizens.”
During Sunday’s Council of Ministers meeting, chaired by President Tebboune, the government approved the raise of the NGMW from 20,000 DA to 24,000 DA as of January 2026, along with an increase of the unemployment allowance from 15,000 DA to 18,000 DA—decisions widely perceived as direct responses to social and economic needs.
Nasri also underscored the significance of the International Conference on Colonial Crimes in Africa, held in Algiers since Sunday under the high patronage of President Tebboune and in cooperation with the African Union. He expressed pride in the pioneering role played by Algerian diplomacy in defending the interests of African peoples and safeguarding the continent’s historical memory, affirming with conviction that “Africa’s past will never be erased.”
