Criminal Network Dismantled in Tipaza: Car Theft Syndicate Brought to Justice

Algiers, Algeria | June 5th, 2025 — In a decisive blow to organized crime, the Major Crime Division of the Tipaza provincial police successfully dismantled a dangerous criminal network last week that was specializing in the theft and resale of motor vehicles.

The network, which had been operating with alarming precision, was headed by two professionals—a skilled electrician and an experienced mechanic—who exploited their technical expertise to alter and falsify serial numbers on stolen vehicles. According to investigators, the gang utilized advanced methods including cloned memory chips and counterfeit keys to carry out the thefts. Once stolen, the vehicles were sold using forged documents bearing fake official seals, allowing them to be reintroduced into the market under the radar.

As part of the investigation, four suspects were arrested and taken into custody. The police broadened the scope of the probe, which led to the recovery of seven stolen vehicles and the seizure of 8 million Algerian dinars in illicit gains.

Authorities also confiscated a large cache of electronic equipment used in car theft operations, including counterfeit keys, forged documents, and stamp seals believed to have been instrumental in legitimizing the illegally obtained vehicles.

The four suspects were referred to the Public Prosecutor at the Tipaza Tribunal, where they face serious charges including the formation of a criminal organization and vehicle theft using fraudulent technological means.
