ALGIERS- The Cuban Ambassador to Algeria, Armando Vergara Bueno, held a working meeting with the Secretary General of the El Moustakbal Front, Abdelaziz Belaid.
During the meeting, both parties discussed the relations of friendship and solidarity binding the two friendly peoples and countries, while discussing ways to further enhance ties between the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and El Moustakbal Front.
In this regard, the Cuban Ambassador handed over a letter of invitation from the PCC to a delegation from the El Moustakbal Front to visit Cuba, being an opportunity to delve into the fruitful efforts deployed by the Cubans amid the unilateral and unjust blockade imposed for over 60 years by the USA.
During the visit, last November, of Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez to Algiers, the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune reaffirmed Algeria’s permanent solidarity with the Cuban people under the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed for over 60 years.
Pt. Tebboune made the remarks in a joint statement with visiting Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel at the end of their talks at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic.
“Algeria and Cuba are bound by historical relations of friendship and solidarity, based on the values of freedom, peace, and justice that we share,” said President Tebboune, reaffirming “Algeria’s permanent solidarity with the Cuban people to lift the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on their country for more than 60 years, driven by our commitment to the United Nations principles and the UN General Assembly resolution which calls for the lifting of this blockade.”
Algeria donates solar power plant to Cuba, cancels interest on debt, says President Tebboune
President Tebboune announced that he was canceling all outstanding interest on the Cuban government’s debt and postponing its repayment “until further notice.”
“Based on our sense of duty towards the Republic of Cuba, a sisterly and friendly country, with which we have had, in the past and present, relations that we will weave together in the future, Algeria has decided to alleviate the difficulties facing Cuba’s economy by canceling interest payments on Cuba’s debt to Algeria and the postponement of their payment,” declared President Tebboune.
The Algerian president also offered a solar power plant. “Algeria offers sisterly Cuba a photovoltaic power plant. We will restore the supply of hydrocarbons so that Cuba can reactivate the plants and combat the current power outages,” added President Tebboune.
In addition, President Tebboune said he agreed with his Cuban counterpart to reactivate projects related “to the supply of fuel and the cooperation of both nations in the production of medicines and vaccines; the sugar industry, education, science and culture”.
At the end of his speech, President Tebboune sent a message of support and encouragement to the Cuban people and particularly to young people to “take up the torch.”
He also offered his heartfelt greetings, in his name and on behalf of the Algerian people, to the former President of Cuba, Raul Castro.
