DGSN, ONDA Sign MoU to Strengthen Intellectual Property Protection

A Partnership Aims to Combat Piracy, Safeguard Creative Works, and Strengthen Algeria’s Cultural and Legal Framework

Algiers, Algeria– Sunday, July 28, 2025 | In a  move to consolidate Algeria’s national efforts in protecting intellectual property rights and preserving cultural and artistic creation, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Monday between the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and the National Office of Copyright and Related Rights (ONDA). The signing ceremony took place at the DGSN headquarters, marking a major milestone in institutional cooperation aimed at modernizing the country’s intellectual property protection mechanisms.

The official signing procedures were carried out by Ali Badaoui, Director General of the DGSN, and Samir Thaalibi, Director General of ONDA, in the presence of senior representatives from both institutions.

A Strategic Response to Counterfeiting and Digital Piracy

In his address, Ali Badaoui underlined that this MoU will significantly reinforce efforts to combat counterfeiting and piracy targeting literary and artistic property, including violations committed in the digital sphere. He stressed that this collaboration will focus on legal consultations, procedural harmonization, and the exchange of advanced technical expertise, in addition to the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to track and dismantle intellectual property crimes.

For his part, Samir Thaalibi emphasized that the agreement introduces comprehensive operational, legal, and technical mechanisms to ensure the effective implementation of intellectual property protection. It also provides for specialized training programs, nationwide awareness campaigns, and a permanent coordination framework between the two institutions to ensure continuous and effective cooperation.
